Københavns Stadsarkitekt

In short
The City Architect of Copenhagen plays a central role in shaping how the capital evolves at the intersection of social, environmental, and architectural expectations. SJ&K provides general advisory support that helps frame the role and strengthen its communicative reach.
Project details
Cities are under constant pressure to adapt to shifting societal demands – ranging from sustainability and climate resilience to housing needs, urban culture, and architectural quality. In Copenhagen, the City Architect embodies this balancing act: ensuring that urban development serves citizens while reflecting broader social and environmental ambitions.
Last year architect Lars Jensen took over the role as The City Architect of Copenhagen. Beyond expertise in planning and design, the function also required an ability to communicate priorities clearly, inspire public dialogue, and operate within political and organizational realities. The City Architect thus serves not only as a professional authority but also as a symbolic figure connecting vision with practice.
In this context, SJ&K provides general advisory support that helps frame the role and strengthen its communicative reach, without overshadowing the architectural and societal mission at its core.
The outcome is a stronger platform for the City Architect to articulate priorities, balance diverse expectations, and contribute with confidence to Copenhagen’s urban development debate.
