DanPilot is Denmark’s state-owned pilotage company, safeguarding vessels and the marine environment in one of the world’s busiest maritime regions. Operating at the intersection of safety, public responsibility, regulation, and commercial competition, DanPilot is undergoing a strategic and organisational transformation. SJ&K supports the CEO and leadership team with strategy, leadership, corporate affairs, and communication – helping translate strategic ambition into organisational direction and external positioning.
Project details
For centuries, pilotage has played a critical role in ensuring safe navigation through Danish waters. Today, DanPilot carries that responsibility as a state-owned company operating in a complex environment shaped by maritime safety, security of supply, technological development, political regulation, and increasing commercial competition.
This creates a fundamental strategic tension. DanPilot must fulfil a critical public responsibility and maintain exceptionally high safety standards, while at the same time developing as a modern, efficient, and competitive organisation. Strategic transformation is therefore not simply a question of defining a new direction, but of translating it into leadership, organisational priorities, stakeholder relations, and everyday decisions.
SJ&K works closely with DanPilot’s CEO and leadership to support this transformation. Our work spans strategic and leadership advisory, organisational development, public affairs and stakeholder management, positioning, and strategic communication. A central focus is creating coherence between DanPilot’s strategic direction, its leadership principles, its organisation, and the way the company positions itself towards employees, customers, its owner, authorities, and the wider maritime sector.
The work also supports DanPilot in becoming more proactive in its external role – articulating not only what the company does today, but how its expertise, capacity, and societal role can contribute to the future development of Danish maritime safety and infrastructure.
The ambition is to strengthen DanPilot’s ability to navigate change with a clear direction: connecting its historic responsibility for safe navigation with the leadership, organisation, and positioning required for the future.
